November 19, 2014 — Catapulting World of Warcraft past 10-million subscribers today is the Warlords of Draenor expansion. According to Polygon, a press release put out by Blizzard Entertainment detailed how the expansion sold well over 3.3 million copies in its first 24 hours. This is the biggest boost in sales since 2010 which is still the game’s most lucrative year.
Despite some server problems, it seems as if WoW is regaining much of its lost popularity. Their new model allows for users to play for free until Level 20 in order to test the game, trumping the original model which offered free months to non-subscribers.
Whatever the combination, Warlords of Draenor has certainly made an impact for Blizzard. Although their most recent prior expansion, Mists of Pandaria, also saw more than 1o million total subscribers, their base has since shrunk. Hopefully for the company this expansion has what it takes to keep…
