Ubisoft Cutting Back on Wii U, Plans Focus on Next-Gen Consoles

August 18, 2014 Ubisoft is citing dismal sales as to why Watch Dogs will be the last mature title from the developer on the Wii U. The company’s CEO Yves Guillemot met in an interview with Game Informer where he confirmed that, although Ubisoft will still make games for Wii U, titles in the vein of Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs will no longer release on the platform.

Guillemot assures consumers that games such as the Just Dance series, which consumers are “very interested in,” will continue to release on the console. Guillemot did not specifically mention Rayman, however, he did state, “what we are trying to do is to focus more on the types of games they [Wii U owners] are interested in.”

Guillemot revealed to Game Informer that after the closing of the fiscal year on March 31, 2014, Wii U sales accounted for only 3% of the year’s sales. Even…
